Most titles give the bite angle, usually 40 degrees or 90 degrees, and many give the working length. Titles name Spurling and Ferris-Smith patterns, along with micro Kerrison rongeurs. You will also find cervical and lumbar models, and titles note thin footplate, ejector and detachable designs. Makers in the titles include Codman, V. Mueller and Jarit, along with Ruggles and Aesculap. Some listings are sets of two or more Kerrison rongeurs, often in different bite widths.

What to check on a Kerrison rongeur listing

• Bite width. Compare the bite width in the title, given in millimeters, with the size you need.
• Angle. Check the angle, such as 40 degrees or 90 degrees, and whether the bite is up or down.
• Working length. Compare the working length with the Kerrison rongeur you already use.
• Footplate and jaw. Use the photos to look at the footplate and the cutting edge. If you want a close-up of the jaw, ask and we will send it before you buy.
• Warranty. 30-day warranty against functional defects.
